In Batu Berendam, Melaka, we stopped by Phone Talk Enterprise and met Miss Goh. It is a shop that has long had to deal with changes in the phone business.
According to the dealer, selling phones is no longer as easy as it once was. Many brands now have their own official channels, and customers can simply get their phones at shopping malls.
So they started looking at services that people still need every day.
Topup and bill payment.
At first, customers came in to buy topups. From there, they began offering bill payment as well, covering electricity bills, water bills and various other payments.
“You can pay for all sorts of things here. A lot of older folks come in, so we help them out.”
For them, it is not only about income. They also want to make things easier for customers, especially those who may be more comfortable coming to a shop than doing everything themselves online.
Interestingly, many customers also come through word of mouth. Some have used the service before and then recommend it to others.
And since getting to know P2U, they say there is no need to look for another platform.
One place for topup, one place for bill payment, and one more way to support the shop’s income.
This is how Phone Talk Enterprise is adapting its business to changing times. Instead of depending on phone sales alone, they now also provide services that customers genuinely need every day.
